Positive Displacement Flow Meters: Large P-Style Meters
back

The P-Style BiRotor Meter is a positive displacement flowmeter with an electrical output utilized in demanding applications requiring accuracy, long life and ruggedness. It is available with 3” to 16", 150, 300, & 600 lb. ANSI R.F. flange connections and maintains high accuracy over a flow range of 357 to 13,000 BPH.

Accuracy is attained by the unique BiRotor design which features two finely balanced rotors.

Long life is assured because the meter does not contain any oscillating, reciprocating, sliding parts or cranks to wear or disturb the balanced rotary action. In addition, the materials incorporated within the meter assembly were selected specifically for the wide range of petroleum and industrial products to be exposed to the meter assembly.

Ruggedness is provided in the double case housing fabricated from steel castings and drawn steel plates. This protects the meter from adverse forces, such as pipe strain, vibration or external damage which the meter can be exposed to.

Design Features
Conforms with international standards of flowmeter accuracy
Double case construction isolates measuring unit from effects
of vibration, pipe strain or external damage
Two simple rotors with no metal-to-metal contact are the only
moving parts in the measuring chamber
   Output linear with flow rate
   Rangeability of 10 to 1
   Explosion proof amplifier housing
   Compact design
With either one or two pick-offs available

Principle of Operation
The two spiral fluted rotors within the measuring chamber are dynamically balanced, but hydraulically unbalanced. As the product enters the intake of the measuring unit chamber, the two rotors divide the product into precise segments of volume momentarily and then return these segments to the outlet of the measuring unit chamber. During this "liquid transition", the rotation of the two rotors is directly proportional to the flow rate of liquid thruput. The passage of the rotor timing gear through a magnetic field generates an electrical signal which is immediately amplified and shaped by an amplifier mounted directly on the meter. This wave pulse can then be fed directly to the desired instrumentation for readout or control.
